Throwing it back to a meaningful project that continues to make an impact in our community.
MHP is proud to have served as the Structural Engineer on the 80,000-square-foot, four-story Cherese Mari Laulhere Children’s Village for MemorialCare Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital Long Beach. The project was delivered through a collaborative design-build effort with Turner Construction Company and c|a architects.
Bringing together more than 35 pediatric specialty clinics, the Village was designed to give families access to comprehensive care in one convenient location. The LEED Gold facility prioritizes both sustainability and wellness, with a light-filled, multi-story lobby and full-height windows that draw natural daylight deep into the clinical spaces.
Healing extends beyond the interior as well, with age-specific rehab therapy gyms opening to a shaded outdoor yard, creating opportunities for care in fresh air and natural light.
The project was shaped by a highly collaborative process, leveraging lean strategies such as pull planning, big room coordination, and full-scale mockups of nearly every treatment space, all carried out within a 30,000-square-foot outdoor tent to fine-tune design and functionality.
MHP’s scope included the core and shell, exterior façade, MEP anchorage, and key shared spaces, along with tenant improvements for physician offices, clinic modules, imaging, pharmacy, and lab areas.
We are grateful to have contributed to a project dedicated to advancing pediatric and women’s healthcare.
