MHP was pleased to welcome a group of Long Beach Unified School District interns to our office for a day of learning, collaboration, and hands-on problem-solving.
Design Engineer Chris Gateley and Associate Daniel Fox, S.E. led an engaging presentation, introducing the interns to MHP, explaining how structural engineering impacts the built environment, and sharing why it’s such a rewarding career. They also highlighted MHP’s commitment to sustainable design and discussed our involvement in the SE 2050 Commitment Program
After the presentation, the interns put their creativity and teamwork to the test in a friendly design challenge. Working in two teams, they had just 30 minutes to build the tallest freestanding structure possible using only balloons and rods. It was exciting to watch them brainstorm, collaborate, and apply engineering principles in a fun, hands-on way.
The day wrapped up with lunch alongside our team, giving the interns an opportunity to ask questions, hear about different career paths, and connect with practicing engineers.
