THE KENSINGTON SENIOR LIVING & RETAIL

Sierra Madre, California

The Kensington Sierra Madre is a two-story mixed-use facility, which includes first floor retail, assisted living and memory care.  Building framing consists of wood I joists at the 2nd floor and trussed rafters at the roof level.  Wood stud walls were utilized for both bearing and shearwalls for the majority of the building.  The first floor retail spaces include glass store fronts, which required use of steel moment frames for lateral resistance.  Due to higher grades at adjacent properties, 12’ to 16’ retaining walls were placed along the north property line utilizing shotcrete walls supported by drilled concrete caissons.
