LAGUNA BEACH FESTIVAL OF ARTS

Laguna Beach, California

The project consisted of the renovation of the world-renowned Laguna Festival of Arts grounds and frontage/façade along Laguna Canyon Road. MHP provided structural engineering design and construction support services for the phased project. The frontage/façade project included new ticket office housed within a concrete and steel structure with horizontal-trussed roof, tall decorative steel frontage walls, and rammed-earth walls that match the canyon aesthetic. The grounds project includes a new gift shop and restrooms, a stage, art sales/display pavilions (designed by Fabri-Tech and reviewed by MHP), and associated site work (retaining walls, benches) within the festival area. Unique soil conditions and specimen-quality trees required several different foundation systems, including mat-footings and deep cast-in-place piers.
