Originally from Seattle, Washington, Chris Gateley joined MHP in March 2022 after spending three years with another engineering firm. In 2018, Chris received his B.S. in Architectural Engineering from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and is currently an Engineer in Training working toward his Professional Engineering license.

As a Design Engineer at MHP, Chris has played a key role in the evaluation and design of a wide range of structural systems and building materials. Through his commitment to his work, he has helped MHP strengthen relationships with architects in the commercial industry.

Among his recent project accomplishments are two Target stores that are now fully completed and operational in Fresno, CA, and Bakersfield, CA. In addition, Chris has contributed to several ground-up design projects, renovations of existing buildings, tenant improvement work, and construction support for various projects.

Chris is currently working on several active projects across Southern California. These include Barrington Plaza in Los Angeles, a major renovation of three high-rise apartment buildings, along with plaza-level tenant improvements that are currently under construction. At Long Beach City College, the new Building E at the Liberal Arts Campus broke ground earlier this year and is now fully under construction. Chris is also involved in two K–12 projects: Monroe Elementary School for the Santa Ana Unified School District, a campus-wide reconstruction currently under DSA review, and a new multi-purpose gymnasium building for Lopez Academy in Oxnard, which is currently in the design phase.

Chris particularly enjoys working in the education sector. With a background in teaching, he finds it especially rewarding to see education projects come to life and looks forward to the students and faculty benefiting from the completed spaces.

In addition to his project work, Chris has been actively involved in the ACE Mentor Program for the past two years at McBride High School in Long Beach. ACE Mentor is an after-school program designed to introduce high school students to careers in architecture, construction, and engineering.

When he’s not in the office, Chris enjoys going to concerts and supporting his Seattle-based sports teams (Go Mariners and Seahawks!). With the return of sunny weather, he’s also currently training for a marathon.

We appreciate Chris’s dedication to MHP and look forward to supporting his continued growth within the industry.
