CSU Bakersfield Fine Arts Center

BAKERSFIELD, CALIFORNIA

MHP designed the Fine Arts Center, the first new Humanities Department building on the California State University, Bakersfield campus. The Fine Arts Center design features studios organized around a central courtyard, movable partitions and high bay ceilings equipped with an interconnecting overhead monorail crane system to support flexible space use. The ceramics, sculpture and printing studios connect to a large covered service yard which can be utilized to double the size of the usable floor area. All studios feature natural light and shaded circulation. The project incorporated sustainable elements inspired by LEED Silver standards.
