9401 Wilshire Blvd Seismic Strengthening

Beverly Hills, CALIFORNIA

9401 Wilshire is a 12-story non-ductile concrete office building over three subterranean levels. The building encloses 146,000 square feet and is located in Beverly Hills, California. MHP was commissioned to design a seismic strengthening which would substantially reduce seismic risk without interrupting business operations.

MHP completed detailed ASCE 41 performance-based linear and non-linear seismic analyses and assembled a team to conduct in-situ materials testing and perform geotechnical and seismic hazard studies.

MHP reviewed several retrofit options with the owner, and ultimately designed a strengthening which utilized fluid viscous dampers within the top parking level only, sparing the office space from costly disruptions while still achieving the client’s risk reduction goal. The strengthening was completed in 2020.

Coinciding with the retrofit, MHP designed a lobby upgrade and other interior and exterior site improvements including a new entry canopy, hardscape and glazing replacement.
