Our ThrowbackThursday highlight this week is two iconic Target stores in Sunnyvale, CA & on Sunset Blvd. in Los Angeles, CA. Since 1999, MHP has fostered a strong relationship with Target Corporation, offering structural engineering services to their chosen Architects. Engineers at MHP have completed hundreds of new designs and remodels at multiple locations throughout the United States.

Target Sunnyvale consists of a raised single-level “unique” Target store over structured parking. This new facility steps well outside the Target prototype by utilizing a precast concrete podium structure supporting a steel-framed superstructure enclosing the retail space. Construction of the store was completed in 2009.

Target Sunset in Los Angeles, CA was a new ground-up, 3-story, mixed-use building complex with retail and restaurant spaces provided at street level, a single-level Target store on the third level, and parking at the first and second levels above grade. The building provides enhanced shopping and dining opportunities for the Sunset and Western community. Construction of this store was completed in 2022.

Working within the prototype Target store to remodel and create new facilities, MHP consistently provides structural engineering services for specific stores’ needs, while providing cost-effective solutions to unique non-prototypical conditions.

Our lead engineer for Target Sunnyvale was Principal, Kenneth O’Dell, S.E. & our lead engineer for Target Sunset was Associate Principal, James Kramer, SE.

We are grateful to have worked with Target for the last 20+ years and look forward to continuing to design and renovate these stores that are such a staple in each community.
