Michael Daciolas-Semon, P.E., S.E. joined MHP in 2024 and brings a strong background working on existing and historic buildings to our Seismic Evaluation and Retrofit team. He works closely with architects, developers, and building owners to bring their vision to life—ensuring structural integrity while balancing cost, constructability, and minimizing disruption.

Some of Michael’s recent accomplishments include leading the seismic evaluation and strengthening design of a 5-story non-ductile concrete building from the 1920s under the City of Los Angeles Non-Ductile Concrete Building Ordinance, serving as the primary engineer for analysis, design decisions, and client coordination. He also completed the seismic evaluation of a non-ductile concrete high-rise in West Hollywood, helping ownership understand retrofit feasibility and implications under the City of West Hollywood’s ordinance.

In recognition of his dedication and impact, Michael was honored with SEAOSC (Structural Engineers Association of Southern California) Young Engineer of the Year Award in 2020.

Currently, Michael is playing a key role in seismic evaluations for more than a dozen existing non-ductile concrete buildings, helping owners prioritize seismic risk, develop compliance strategies, and plan for long-term resilience. He is also actively involved in the seismic retrofit of a critical facility at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), where the design team is implementing exterior framing with viscous fluid dampers to enhance seismic performance while minimizing disruption to ongoing operations.

As an advocate for sustainability in the built environment, Michael is an active member of MHP’s Sustainability Committee and SEAOSC’s Sustainable Design Committee, supporting MHP’s SE 2050 Commitment by helping integrate practical embodied-carbon reduction strategies into project work.

Outside of engineering, Michael enjoys spending time with his wife and baby son, exploring local parks, and perfecting the art of nap time.

We’re proud of Michael’s contributions to MHP and grateful for his leadership and dedication within our seismic division.
