MHP Services: Structural Design of Lateral System

MHP was instrumental in the design of the Air Traffic Control Tower at Sea-Tac International Airport. MHP’s Engineers worked as Structural Consultants with Prime Designers URS Corporation for the Steel Frame and Connection Design, including criteria for Progressive Collapse Mitigation.

The first-of-a-kind steel frame 259-foot air traffic control tower was designed to resist extreme wind, earthquake, and direct bomb blast loading, and to mitigate progressive collapse due to terrorist attacks. The structural design significantly exceeds seismic and FAA anti-terrorism bomb blast criteria.
