A renovation and Gymnasium addition were completed at the Perry Lindsey International Studies Magnet campus in Long Beach USD. The new 14,000 square feet Gymnasium/Multipurpose Building utilized Concrete Masonry Block construction and included an open gymnasium, boys and girls locker rooms and coach’s facilities. Custom fabricated long span steel trusses were designed to support the roof over the gymnasium space. The 17,000 square foot classroom Building A renovation included the reconfiguration or shifting of interior spaces including administration, library, and classroom spaces. The structural impact to the building’s gravity and seismic resisting systems were evaluated, and modifications and seismic strengthening were completed per ASCE 41 performance-based criteria.
