The new Math and Science Classroom building at Mt. SAC is three-stories, with an adjoining one-story Exploratorium space. Nestled within the confines of the existing campus, the building design required consideration for construction sequencing in order to minimize the impact to surrounding facilities during construction.

The building is founded on deep concrete piles. The vertical framing system consists of structural steel supporting concrete filled metal deck. Lateral forces are resisted by structural steel braced frames using tube steel members. Critical design considerations included coordinating the tall glass curtain walls, transferring roof loads to the lateral system while maintaining the clerestory windows at the Exploratorium Building, and accommodating the tight confines of the existing campus site which required detailed coordination with the contractors during steel erection.
