Construction Cost: $12M
Architect: BAUER Architects
The project consists of the renovation of the world-renowned Laguna Festival of Arts grounds and frontage/facade along Laguna Canyon Road. MHP is providing structural engineering design and construction support services for the phased project. Completed construction includes the frontage/facade elements, which consist of a new ticket office housed within a concrete and steel structure with horizontal-trussed roof, tall decorative steel frontage walls, and rammed-earth walls that match the canyon aesthetic. Currently under construction are the grounds projects, which include new gift shop and restrooms, stage, art sales/display pavilions (designed by fabri-tech and reviewed by MHP), and associated site work (retaining walls, benches) within the festival area. Unique soil conditions and specimen-quality trees required several different foundation systems, including mat-footings and deep cast-in-place piers.
The Festival of Arts Facade and Grounds projects were honored at the recent AIA Orange County Design Awards on September 15th. The Facade project was recognized with a Merit Award and the Grounds project was honored with a Citation.
