MHP is currently seeking engineering candidates in the following focused areas at both our Long Beach & San Diego office:
Project Engineer candidate will perform structural engineering analysis and coordination for projects through project stages from feasibility to construction documents for design of new buildings and retrofit of existing structures. Structural Engineering for various project types will include education, hospital and healthcare, residential, and commercial buildings. Engineering responsibilities will include structural framing design, seismic design, preparation of structural calculations, coordination of construction documents and construction administration services. Direct communication and coordination with clients, architects, consultants from other disciplines, agency plan reviewers, and contractors is expected. All design and analysis will be governed by current codes, regulations and standards including the California Administrative Code, California Building Code, California Existing Building Code, ASCE 7 and ASCE41.
Requirements: Candidate must have Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis in Structural/Earthquake Engineering and be licensed as a P.E. (Civil) in the state of California. One-year experience in providing DSA structural safety review for K-12 educational projects; preparing structural calculations and construction documents for gravity and lateral force resisting systems for City and DSA submittals; performing DSA over-the-counter back check meetings to obtain structural safety approvals; preparing Addendum and CCD documents for DSA review; review of RFIs and submittals; field observations; providing DSA structural safety review of projects submitted by other structural engineers, and field meeting with clients for new projects. Familiar with seismic analysis of irregular shaped building structures made of wood, CMU and steel. Solid knowledge of building codes and DSA IRs.
Seismic Evaluation and Retrofit candidate shall have 3 years minimum experience in this focused area, SAP/ETABS expertise in non-linear (pushover and time history) building analysis with ASCE 41 experience. Masters or PhD preferred with a PE license.
Due-Diligence candidate shall have 3 years minimum experience with a PE or SE. Must have solid understanding of all lateral system types and good written/verbal communication skills. Expect some travel outside of Southern California to evaluate seismic risk of existing buildings in major west-coast cities.
